Remnants of Kavčina Castle

ZBYTKY HRADU KAVCINY

Bohemian Paradise

Turnov

The remnants of the Kavčiny Tower is the rock watch tower from the 14th century that was designed to defend Valdštejn Castle from its most vulnerable side.

It was built on a rocky ridge divided into 3-6 isolated blocks. The last one shows remarkable prints of anchored overhead wooden structures of a special shape and a large square construction with a little adjacent rock room. Later the Kavčiny became the residence of robbers and after the conquest of 1440 the castle deteriorated.

Locality: At the end of the sandstone ridge , less than one kilometre to the south from Valdštejn.
