The castle was in part carved in the rock and the limited space made the builders create a structure consisting of several storeys. The defence was provided by the bulwark in which a large round tower was incorporated.

Another round tower was built in the area in front of the castle. Frýdštejn Castle was used by filmmakers for the settings of the popular tale Jasněnka the Princess and the Flying Shoemaker – the scenes from the witch tower were shot right here.
