Lomnice nad Popelkou is located in the western part of Podkrkonoší, in a broad valley of the Popelka River. The first record of Lomnice nad Popelkou dates back to 1308, when it was held by Albert of Waldstein. At that time there were mostly wooden houses in the town. Some monuments of wooden rural architecture, typical for Podkrkonoší, have been preserved up to now.
