Bílý Pond is located on the Klenice River at the end of the Prokopské valley, in Podkost. During rainy periods, its colour used to be light so it was named Bílý i.e. White.

Černý (Black) Pond is situated a bit farther from the castle, towards Turnov. Its characteristic dark colour originates from the springs coming from peat bog areas.
