You can reach Besedice, the starting point for the rock circuit, by car following the road from Turnov to Zelezny Brod through Koberovy, where you will turn in the direction of Mala Skala. Then turn once again directly to the parking site in Besedice. Walk along the green and red marked trail, starting from the parking site buffet, to the former U Kalicha hut, where there is the starting point of the described Besedice circuit through rocks, along the yellow marked tourist trail.

This 4,5 km long circuit was opened festively on September 25, 1935, and called Tourist Trail of Dr. Edvard Benes. Local enthusiasts, led by the chairman of the Decorative Society, Frantisek Horak, managed to create it in six months. Former red marks can still be seen on several rocks and red numbers are still visible in interesting places, which are given in brackets in this material too, to enable better orientation.

From the U Kalicha hut, originating from 1925, continue along the green and red trails. The red trail will cut across the circuit twice more, so it can be used by tourists as the most direct way back to Besedice or Mala Skala.

Turn left at the road fork together with the yellow and green trails and reach the first viewpoint called Vysoka skala - High Rock (1) or Zdenka´s Rock. There is a nice view of the Hamstejn ridge and of the highest hill of the Bohemian Paradise, the 744 high Kozakov. Then walk through an interesting section which is the favourite place of children because of its beautiful narrow passages between rocks.

First pass through Maly kostel - Small Church (2) and notice an interesting rock with shell-like cracks behind on the left which is called Ucho - Ear. Then there is another maze Hruby kostel - Rough Church (3). When you squeeze through the rocks and walk under a wedged boulder, you will reach a clearing in a pine forest where there is a memorial to the victims of nazism.

The yellow marked trail continues into the rocks surrounding Kalich - Chalice. In the middle of the rocks, there is a Kalich Sanctuary (5) with an altar and cut chalice with the date of 1634. On the wall, there is an extract from the Testament by J. A. Komensky (I believe in God that when the gale of anger passes the power over your matters will return to you, oh you, the Czech people) and the poem by J.E. Vitasek, a monk from the Turnov Franciscan monastery. The prayer room served for secret worships of Czech Brethren in the time of counter-reformation.

Just behind this sanctuary, there is a symbolic grave of the Czech Brethren. There is also a road fork where the green trail turns and leads to the blue trail, along which it is possible to reach the Zbiroh castle ruin*. Continue along the yellow trail to a rock plateau where there is a partially overgrown viewpoint of the Czech Brethren (7).

v Pass through this part of the rock town and reach the broad path leading to the road fork of the red and yellow trails. Continue along the yellow one which will lead you to the Chleviste rock region. The origin of the name can be traced back to the periods of unrests when village people would hide their cattle to prevent them from being confiscated by the passing army troops.

First walk through the Ve vratkach - In the Gate rock group and then reach the large cave of the exile Vaclav Sadovsky of Sloupno (9) who was a Swedish cavalry leader in the Thirty Year War. His treasure, which was lost and found again, is in the Turnov Museum.

The most beautiful viewpoints of the Mala Skala region are to be found behind the cave. The first one is called Horakova - Horak´s viewpoint (10) after the chairman of the Decorative Society, Frantisek Horak, a head teacher from Loucky, the second viewpoint with a pine tree is called Husnikova - Husnik´s viewpoint (11) after one of the donors of iron for the railing, ing. Antonin Husnik, the director of the Aero factory in Prague - Vysocany.

From the viewpoints, there is a beautiful view of the Jizera valley and Vranovsky ridge, Kopanina, Jested, Ralsko, both Bezdez hills, Kacov and the Drabske svetnicky. Continue from the viewpoints to the cave of Matej Krocinovsky of Borek (12), a preacher who was persecuted because of his faith, arrested and executed. The next viewpoint Kde domov muj - Where Is My Country (13) was named on the basis of a proposal of the members of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra from Prague. Today it is partially overgrown.

The following group of rocks is called V zatisi - Quiet Place (15). Here you can also find the completely overgrown viewpoint Kinskeho - Kinsky´s viewpoint (16) named after Frantisek Kinsky, the secretary of the Decorative Society, creator of the trail and the innkeeper at the U Kalicha hut.

Reach the road fork with the red trail at Panovo field and walk along it for a while upward to the right, then turn left. After the ascent through a beech tree forest, enter the rock group near the Sokol - Falcon (562 m). On the left hand side, two lonely rock towers soar - Sokolik - Little Falcon, which is also called Hodanka, and Sokol (Falcon) with a relief of dr. M. Tyrs. On the top of Sokol there is a small rock turned into a viewpoint platform, however, there is no view from it nowadays as the trees have grown.

A marked turning will lead you to a basalt rock which used to be called Masaryk´s viewpoint. It will enable you the most beautiful view of Suche Rocks, Cerna studnice mountain and of a part of the Krkonose mountains. The Suche Skaly - Dry Rocks (Teacher's Organ, Czech Dolomiti) are a unique geomorphologic formation which was given a protected area status in 1965. They create a part of the Jested - Kozakov ridge and, as far as geology is concerned, they are solid lower Cretaceous (cenoman) sandstones which were broken tectonically in the Lusatian Fault and raised to the position of a rugged rock wall. They are a favourite terrain for climbers.

Return to Sokol and walk down along the yellow trail to the U Kalicha hut where the circuit is completed. Follow the red and green trails to return to the parking site with refreshment.
