The exceptionality of these unusually tourist-attractive districts rests in the fact that here are sandstone towns of various ages. On December 2002, the Protected Landscape Area Bohemian Paradise was enlarged from 92 km2 to 181.5 km2. The original area of the Protected Landscape Area was complemented with the Malá Skála, Kozákov, Klokočské Rocks and Prachovské Rocks regions and with the area between Kněžmost and Sobotka. Thus the Protected Landscape Area consists of three separate parts.
"Paradise" cannot be confined by borders, pickets or fences. People primarily surround the spaces of the Bohemian Paradise itself with feelings and this has shown itself as a result in the places they most often hike and where, with a glimpse at the map, we can see the densest network of marked tourist trails. The system of tourist markings in the Czech Republic is perfect and perhaps a model for the entire world. The Bohemian Paradise is an exemplary display in this direction. The abundance of rocks and border massifs offer wonderful views into the surroundings. The views are even better when viewed from the hilltops, which are predominantly of volcanic origin. Some places with distant views have also been modified and here we find larger or smaller lookout towers. The true paradise for view connoisseurs begins on the border between the Bohemian Paradise and the Jizerské Mountains, predominantly in the vicinity of Jablonec nad Nisou.
