The beginning of the history of the castle dates back to the 2nd half of the 10th century. At that time, there was an ancient fort that occupied nearly the whole area of today`s Staré Město.

Kost Castle is one of the best-preserved Czech castles from the late Gothic period. It was founded in the mid 14th century by Bene of Vartemberk.
