On the northern edge of contemporary Turnov stands the comfortable Renaissance Hrubý Rohozec chateau on an arenaceous marl limestone plateau above the Jizera River. It was rebuilt in the years 1534-1621 from the original early Gothic castle, which guarded the trade route and in 1822 underwent an Empire reconstruction. An exhibition documents the development of residential culture and clothing from the past 400 years. An important part is the garden and English park. The chateau is connected with the town by the instructive chateau trail.

On the site of the original castle from the 14th century, built on a monumentally high cliff, stands the Hruba Skala chateau. Reconstruction of the castle changed it into a more comfortable noble Renaissance residence in the second half of the 16th century and in the middle of the 19th century it was again re-Gothicised. In the same region of the sandstone plateau stands a church built in romantic Gothic, from which a connecting bridge with valuable Baroque statues leads to the chateau. In the area of the chateau today is a private hotel, but visitors may enter the courtyard and the tower with its wonderful view. The nearest vicinity of the chateau provides tours of rock towns, the arboretum in Bukovina, the rock passage called Mysi dira (the one of the original four towers Mouse Hole) or a visit to the cave called Adamovo loze (Adam's Bed). We obtain the most beautiful view of the chateau as well one of the most beautiful views of Cesky raj itself from the nearby Marianska vyhlidka (observation point).

Jicin chateau in the north-eastern corner of the square was originally the residence of Mikulas Trcka of Lipa, and was rebuilt after 1608 by Zikmund Smiricky into a two-storey Renaissance chateau with arcades. In 1620, the chateau was destroyed by an explosion of gunpowder. During the rule of Albrecht of Valdstejn in the years 1624-1633 (see page), a new early Baroque chateau was built. Today it houses the district museum and gallery (see page). Next to the chateau stands the Church of St. James the Elder, the torso of the intended Bishop's cathedral, which Albrecht of Valdstejn decided to build in the years 1627-1634. Okolni namesti (a square) with arcades of the ducal Valdicka brana (Valdice Gate). Its 52-metre height guarantees an excellent view.

On the site of a stronghold from the 15th century, the well-known Czech noble Vaclav Budovec of Budov built a single-storey, two-winged Renaissance chateau in 1606. After the Battle of the White Mountain, Vaclav Budovec was executed and his confiscated property passed to the ownership of Albrecht of Valdstejn. At the turn of the 18th century, it was rebuilt into its current form and became part of the Baroque campus with stables, riding hall, a grotto hall and a French park. Part of the chateau campus also includes the Capuchin monastery complex and the Church of St. Anne with an English park, built at the end of the 17th century. Currently open to the public are the original period interiors, the chateau theatre, the collection of Delft faience, Chinese, Japanese and missionary porcelain, Valdstejn library from Duchcov, managed in the 18th century by G. The devastated chateau was designated for demolition in 1960, but local citizens decided to help save it. The reconstructed Renaissance chateau is the pride of the village. Located in the chateau, for example, are the workrooms of A. Jirasek, E. Krasnohorska, the library of J. Vrchlicky and the piano of Vitezslav Nezval. In the village of Svojkov is the former farmstead called Sychrov, which was acquired by Albrecht of Vald?tejn after the Battle of the White Mountain. In 1669, the estate was purchased by the knight Lamotte of Frintoppe and Lamotte himself built a Baroque chateau here with a tower and chapel in the years 1690-1693. After 1820, it belonged to the famous French noble Rohan family. In the second half of the 19th century, Kamil Rohan had the chateau rebuilt and expanded in romantic Gothic style.
Czech artists and craftsmen (the woodcarvers Buskova, E. Max) shared in decorating it. An English park with exotic tree species, founded in 1820, belongs to the chateau. Open to the public are the neo-Gothic interiors, Rohan gallery - the largest collection of French portrait painting in central Europe, the memorial hall of Antonín Dvorak.
