In the footsteps of Albrecht of Valdstein

The figure of Albrecht of Valdštejn is linked not only to the Thirty Years' War, but also with the beginnings of Baroque art here. After he converted to the Catholic Church, this opened the way to his military successes and a brilliant career. In addition to this, Valdštejn was also a noteworthy economist of his era and from the centre of his Frýdlant duchy, Jičín, he created a model for early Baroque architecture. His death on 25 February 1634, ended not merely the career of one of the most significant figures of our history, but for a long time it also ended the further development of Jičín itself, which was convulsed in that era by the events of the Thirty Years' War.The Bohemian Paradise Association published a tourist guide, map and interconnected the participating subjects with a motivation game.

The rules for the motivation game of the project:

1) Brochures containing a free map of stamping places can be bought in relevant  information  centres and places involved in the game.

2) When visiting a place – castles, châteaux, museums and after buying an entrance ticket a visitor will receive a stamp depicting Albrecht of Valdštejn.

3) For every three received stamps a visitor will get a gold Valdštejn coin (i.e. it’s possible to get only two coins using one bought brochure and map).

4) After collecting six stamps on the map a visitor will be received, if interested, by duke Albrecht of Valdštejn himself during Valdštejn Days in Jičín (every even year in May), in Frýdlant (every odd year in May) or every year in Cheb, alternatively in Staré Hrady Château and Mnichovo Hradiště Château.
