In many places on some maps of Cesky raj, we find marks representing crossed sabres with the year 1866. In this year, the second largest battle of the 19th century was prepared and fought here. In places where today we rave about the beautiful views into the landscape, artillery once stood and people nearby prayed they would survive the day. We find many monuments, mass graves and we read hundreds of names of men for whom Cesky raj was definitely not a welcoming and attractive tourist area, but the site where in the name of the "great idea," they came to meet their maker.
