Paceřice: Springs in Studnice

Water tank in Paceřicích

Since time immemorial, the main source of drinking water for the whole of Paceřice used to be the gushing springs in Studnice, which gave the settlement belonging to the municipality its name. The water in Studnice even more important for the development of the municipality, as the ground water in Paceřice was hard to access due to the local geological bedrock. There used to be just two wells in Paceřice (by houses no. 27 and 46), and so a fountain was built on the springs in Studnice in 1893. The availability of drinking water was one of the reasons why most development is centred around Studnice.

So that the lack of water would not hinder the development of the rest of the municipality, sometime later a wooden, kilometre-long pipe was built from the Studnice springs to the pond in Paceřice; the wooden pipe was later replaced by a cast-iron one. This led as far as the village green in Paceřice, where a second municipal fountain was built. That worked until the mid-20th century.

A municipal water supply from a reservoir above the village piped to the individual houses was built in Paceřice in 1916.

A water supply and a pumping station by the fountain were built in Studnice in 1931.

In 1993, after fertilizers seeped from the fields and contaminated the Studnice springs, Studnice had to be connected up to the main Paceřice water line, which empties into the Studnice waterworks. Since then, the whole village has been connected to the North Bohemian Waterworks and Sewers water source.

Water from the springs in Studnice still supplies the fountain as well as the fire water reservoir in Paceřice, which is a welcome opportunity to freshen up and have fun in the water during summer. The reservoir is looked after by the local residents and firefighters, who clean it and paint it every year, and add chlorine to maintain the water quality.
